From 31st January 2025, HMRC will remove the waiver code 999L for certain export declarations via the Customs Declaration Service (CDS). This update means exporters will need to provide:

  • New, specific codes depending on the goods being shipped.
  • Additional details such as whether the goods require a license or are intended for waste.

At KMB Shipping Group, we’re committed to supporting you through these changes. To ensure compliance, you may notice our team asking additional questions about your shipments.

This change stems from HMRC’s ongoing updates to the CDS, introduced in 2024, which replaced the older CHIEF system. These updates aim to enhance accuracy but require exporters to adapt their processes.

For instance:

  • Previously, when no license was needed for certain goods, we input the waiver code 999L.
  • As of January 2025, this code will be replaced with new, more detailed codes, such as specifying whether goods are intended for waste.

We’re here to help you navigate these adjustments seamlessly. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to contact our team anytime.
